We take volunteers/Interns who have finished high school, students who are still/have cleared universities/colleges, or professionals who would love to work in this kind of environment. Your level of education is, however, not pegged to your placement as we also take volunteers based on their experiences in their different professions. At the same time, some of the tasks to be carried out by the volunteers do not require special qualifications as they may involve simple manual work. Part of the application process involves listing any qualifications and skills that you may have. This will help us as an organization to know where you may be best suited in your role as a volunteer and also to fully occupy your time.

Volunteers placed by CELTRA come on a fully self-funded basis and must be willing to cover all their own costs. Such costs include travel from and back to your home country, visa and medical requirements for Kenya, living expenses while staying in Kenya (accommodation, transport, and food) and any extra travel plans you may have. Funds for any other projects, activities, or outings you undertake at the respective work site are also the responsibility of the volunteer. The volunteers should carry with them their sleeping bags and clothing for the duration of stay.

Volunteers are advised to apply for a tourist visa because of its ease to get an extent. The tourist visa also provides the volunteers with an opportunity to move around the country freely.

The minimum age for volunteering with CELTRA is 18 years, however, interns below the mentioned age will be required to present legal documents from the sending institution. Volunteers must have a desire to live and work in hardship situations in Kenya.

For placement, CELTRA charges a registration fee, which will depend on the country or state that one is coming from. This is renewable on an annual basis. This will take care of the volunteers pick up and drop off at the airport and regular supervision visits by CELTRA’s volunteer coordinator.

How to apply for Placement:-

The volunteers are always expected to make their applications either by writing an email to the volunteer coordinator and informing him of their interest. Alternatively, the volunteers can visit CELTRA’s website and download the application form before filling it out and send it back to the volunteer coordinator via email or the post. The volunteer coordinator will attend to all the questions and enquirers.
